Favorite Craft at Oriental Trading
We have used the wind chime crosses for both Sunday School and VBS and they are a favorite for both children and adults. We glue small seashells onto the cross (both sides) and the children enjoy creating designs and placing the shells. We use inexpensive small brushes along with white glue (or tacky glue) poured into paper plates to glue the shells. That's all that's needed. The shells and the unpainted wood of the cross create a lovely wind chime. I attached a picture I took of a wind chime made by a younger child. The older kids and adults made beautiful crosses that they completely covered in shells. I highly recommend this craft. The chimes sound nice and with the shells, it's lovely to look at.

Great Sunday school activity
I've used these several times with 2nd graders. Some years they've used colored pencils and other years markers. (We don't have time to let paint dry.) After decorating them, they can brush a thin layer of glitter glue on it if they want. This craft allows kids to be creative - I never give them instructions, just tell them to decorate it however they'd like. It's amazing what they come up with.

Disappointing
The chimes made a nice sound and the cross itself was fine, but the strings that were used to tie the chimes to the cross were cheap, frayed, unraveling, and made the entire project look terrible. In order to use these for VBS, I cut all the strings off and restrung them with fishing line, so the final project looked great...but I wasn't planning to put that much time & effort into it! :0(
