I use these every year as classroom gifts for my first graders. Each student chooses an elf name at the beginning of December and we use their elf names when addressing each other. On the last day before Winter break, the children come in to find their elves hanging on a string in all different poses. Each elf has a special name tag bearing the elf name of the student they belong to.
There are 3 kinds of elves. - 4 of each type. 4 are definitely boys (wearing shorts and short hair), 4 are definitely girls (wearing dresses and have braids), the last 4 are wearing a short elf type skirt and have short/medium elf hair ( these are unisex, in my opinion). I have used the latter for both boys and girls and have never been questioned by the children.
I've had many students return years later to tell me that they still have their elves!
