Sturdy, colorful plastic. This makes math more interesting for young kids, helping them focus. I also think that creating their own equations, rather than just solving them, reinforces the concepts.

I purchased this item for my preschool class. They had a great time playing with this building set. It's colorful, bright, and because they can be assembled in numerous ways, the children were able to make all sorts of things. It also has numbers on each piece, and the children enjoyed identifying each number, and matching them. One thing: if you use them to make a square "block," it's very hard to pull the pieces apart again.

My kindergarten children love these and ask to use them. I plan to make labels to cover over the multiplication and division symbols since we don't use those in kindergarten.

We bought this product in bulk for an event to do an activity with 100 kids where each would get numbers 0-10. We ordered 10 bags which gave us 700 more pieces than we needed, hoping that this extra would allow for the mix of numbers we needed. It did not. There was a random quantity of numbers. We ended up with only about 60 bags of 0-10, because we did not get enough of the number 8. There were many of other numbers left over. Otherwise, the pieces snapped together well and the kids enjoyed building with the connectors. They are kind of thin but can withstand quite a bit of force before breaking. We had a few broken ones in the package and one that broke while an adult was pulling on it, but the kids did not break any. They connect well. You could make dice out of them for a good classroom math activity.
