I bought these booklets to hand out at a Holiday Party, December 2013. Many of the children knew nothing about Hanukkah and I hoped the story would be portrayed at a child's level here. There is a LOT of history about BEFORE Hanukkah but only one page about candles or the Temple and the oil.
There is good, clear printing for the graphics and the type. Words are about a 6th grade level. I was hoping for a grades1-2 level - told from the point of view of a child in the Temple would be useful. I also wish there were a Hanukkah coloring book.

I got these for my daughter's first grade class and it was perfect for introducing a subject that for 99% of the students was completely foreign. Unless your audience is Jewish, younger audiences will have a hard time understanding Hanukkah anyway, and this story was simple and non-threatening. I will use this booklet again this year in 2nd grade. Of course I will bring in other visuals to explain the holiday, but this was a great addition to their take-away items.

I bought these books for my preschooler's classroom as well as my first grader's and I didn't think the story was clear or concise for this age group. Plus, the story doesn't explain WHY the Maccabees went to war with King Antiochus. I guess I'm going to have to add a lot to the story when I present it to the kids.
