Cute wind chimes but extra prep is needed
Very cute project but the wood needs to be varnished beforehand if you want to use markers (even OTC’s wonderful wood markers) instead of paint or else the colors run together. I also restrung the chimes with twine similar to the loop on top because the thin thread that came with the project knotted easily and the chimes kept falling off.

Can kids use markers or washable paint but then apply a sealant like modpodge to allow hanging outside?

Does the kit come assembled or does the child connect the chimes to the flower and then paint?

BEST ANSWER: The wind chimes come already assembled. You can easily remove the chimes if you wanted while the wood is being painted and then put them back together but you don't really need to. We did them both ways and they came out just as nice leaving the strings on and just painting around them!
Does anyone know the dimensions for this? Not including the length of the string/windchimes

BEST ANSWER: These are 11". Depending on the shape each one is approximately 4"-5".

How big is the actual wooden piece? I am wondering if it is big enough to include child's name using the 1/2" self-adhesive letters.
