Tips for working with Sand Crosses
I have used various sand bottles for years at VBS including the crosses -- here are some tips - when you think it is full -gently tap the container and the sand will settle then continue to add sand just till no more sand will settle --- sand should just come to the bottom where the cross narrows to fit in the base - then take play clay and pack it and pack it into the space making a stopper Then when you turn to put in the base there is no sand shifting if you put in enough sand and packed it tight with clay

Craft was Good but Product Quality wasn't the best
This craft went well! The kids loved the finished product of their sand crosses. The major problem and the reason for the average rating is because out of a box of 24 crosses, I had 3 crosses that had holes in the plastic. If I hadn't ordered a couple of extra crosses then I would not have had enough crosses for each child. NOTE: I am not crafty so I was worried about the sand going everywhere but the bags were easy enough to open for the kids (K-5th grade) and use the funnel to pour in the sand. I also read someone else's review about using modeling clay to plug the crosses up so that the sand doesn't shift as much or pour out in the car ride home. Genius Idea! Overall, it was a great craft, just worrying since the quality was troublesome.

Kids loved them
Kids loved putting sand in crosses. I pretested them to make sure it would fit in base before putting sand in and also glued inside base with tacky glue so kids could not take apart and spill sand all over when finished.

Fun quick project to do with the kids
Made a great Easter gift for family and friends. Base was hard to attach on some of them.

Great for Easter
I love this craft the only suggestion I would make is it needs quite a bit more sand - when you flip it to put in the stand it is so empty at the top !! I don't like that !!

To clarify, does that mean that one kit contains 12 crosses, 12 funnels, and 84 small packets of sand. Or does it mean there are 7 packets of sand to be split between the 12 crosses?

As reported by an earlier post ~ these came without instructions ~ my question is what is the rectangular self sticking foam to be used for?

Does the Color card attach to the cross? Our kits did not come with instructions!
DNWP | April 29th, 2016
  • BEST ANSWER: The color cards are not intended to attach to the cross but could certainly be done at the crafters preference.

what stops the sand from coming out of the cross if the base is taken off, also how does the cross attach to the base ??
| June 6th, 2024
  • BEST ANSWER: The cross fits firmly in the base and won't come off easily. It acts as the lid for the sand. If you pull the base off, the sand will fall out, but because it sits in the base firmly, it won't easily separate.
