Predator Deterrent
Two arrived broken but it was not hard to fix them. They sure are loud! That was the idea. I am using them as a predator deterrent when walking our very small pooch as there are coyotes around here. I'm going to give some to friends for the same purpose.

Great for getting attention, but fragile! (Fixable too.)
I use these for starting races, or otherwise getting the attention of a large group. They are very loud! They work by vibrating a rubber membrane (like a piece of balloon) that is stretched across the top of an air chamber and held in place by a plastic ring. THE RINGS ARE VERY FRAGILE AND BREAK EASILY! It would be good if the rings, were made of a more flexible plastic, rather than the hard rigid plastic that the air chamber is made from. The rigid plastic is appropriate for the air chamber, but is too weak when made into a small thin ring and it easily cracks. Once the ring breaks (or even if it just comes off) the rubber membrane falls off. Some other reviewer suggested that the manufacturer should glue the rings in place, but this would make it so that air could not escape around the rubber membrane, thus the membrane would not vibrate and therefore would not make any noise. The membrane must be held in place by tension so that the air can escape and vibrate the membrane. If the membrane does fall off, with a little patience, you can stretch it back over the end of the air chamber and replace the cap (if it isn't broken) and the noise maker will work again. If the cap is broken, or if the membrane is too small to easily stretch across the chamber, you can cut a piece of balloon to make a new membrane and secure it with a rubber band. The membrane must be taught and the rubber band must be tight. The tauter the membrane, the higher the pitch. Possibly more work than it is worth to you, but doable if you really want them to work. There is a large hole at the bottom of the air chamber and a small hole on the side of the air chamber. The small hole on the side is the one you blow through. If you blow through the large hole on the bottom, you can get some noise, but you would have to blow pretty hard. So, do these work? Yes, sometimes with a little fiddling and fixing on your part. Are they worth the $ and effort? That depends entirely on what you want them for and how badly you want them to work. I love them for getting my scouts' attention, so they are worth it to me.

Works - if it's not broken
The noise makers themselves were good - definitely make a loud noise! However, we ordered 3 dozen of these for a party. No less than 2 out of every bag was broken. Thankfully we had balloons and were able to do a semi-ok fix, but highly disappointed in the quality control.

Great for cheering your football fans
We like the loudness of this small compact item. The downside of it once the rubber baffle burst it’s a done deal. I had about 14 of them didn’t operate correctly because of the lose rubber baffle. The service from your company is outstanding and welcoming. The over all experience was good except for the 14 items that didn’t work

Do you blow into these? Do they make noise when you squeeze them? Need batteries? How do you make the noise happen?
Mendo | June 23rd, 2016
  • BEST ANSWER: You blow into them just as you would any whistle. They do not make any noise when you squeeze them. You would be squeezing a shell. It does not take batteries. It is a shell (from the beach) that has a whistle inside it.

How loud is this? Is there a decibel rating?
Emmy L. | January 26th, 2022
  • BEST ANSWER: There is not a decibel rating on this. It is not as load as an actual air horn.
