Love these little penguin wind-ups, BUT ...
Out of the 12, two had one leg that did not work, and one had both legs that did not work. I took apart the three that did not work properly and fixed them. I already had some practice as I bought the wind-up snowmen last year, and some did not work so I took them apart and figured out how to fix them. Fixing them is a little tricky as the parts are so small. Last year my adult daughter made a holiday racetrack with lanes for the snowmen. We had family snowmen races. Each person was allowed 1-2 additional winds to "go the distance", and each person was allowed to use a chopstick to keep his snowman in his lane as many of the snowmen did not travel in a straight line. It was great fun with everyone eventually winning a prize. I planned to have the races again this year with the penguins. If you don't mind fixing a couple of the penguins (or just buy an extra box to have enough working properly), I would recommend them for some great holiday fun. Be sure to check them because you do not want someone to get a penguin with a broken leg (or two)!

Distance Time Graphing
I purchased these penguins because I needed a wind up toy to measure and graph motion on a distance time graph with my 6th graders. Only 1/2 of them worked at all. The others were quite slow. To be exact, during 1st period, the penguins averaged 1.4 cm/sec. During the second class, the penguins averaged .95 cm/sec. They served a purpose for the day, but they did not last beyond 2 class periods. Would they be fun for a party? Sure.

Disappointment
I bought two boxes of these since I have seventeen students. Eleven of them did not work. I had saved them to give to my students when they had a great day. They were so disappointed and I felt so bad.

Only Haf Worked
To begin with, on a positive note: The penguins were pleasantly larger and cuter than I thought they would be. I ordered a pack of 10, and 5 of them were broken. I called the company and they refunded my money. So, of the working ones, I would recommend them!

Wind Up Penguins were a dissappoinment
I ordered a set of 12 wind up penguins to prepare as Christmas stocking stuffers. When they arrived I noticed the beak on one was missing. Once I tried to test the remaining 11 toys, I found that they were all defective, and did not operate.
