The compasses really work.
I ordered these to add to the Game Set for the Treasure Hunts HI Activity (featuring the Historic Waikiki Walking Trail). I don't care for the cheap wristbands, but the compasses actually work great for the activity, and serves its purpose well.

disappointed
When I first ordered these I was really excited as we have plans to teach the children how to actually use a compass in some orienteering activities and treasure hunt. But when they arrived I was really dissapointed. The compass themselves seemed ok, but the straps are so flimsy and snag everytime they are attached with the velcro that they will be unuseable or fall off. They are also very big for a child's wrist.

These are NOT canvas!
Although the compasses on these bracelets are really cute, the bracelets are not canvas. The bracelets we received were flimsy nylon, so the fabric markers bled. They wouldn't hold their shape while we tried to write on them, either. We're going to try to salvage them by putting fabric tape over the bracelet part to make them sturdier and so the kids will be able to decorate them.

Inexpensive and fun!
These are such fun bracelets. The compasses actually work, although it takes them a few seconds to turn in the right direction. The only thing is that they are a little big if you are using them with very young children. We just cut off the ends and tied them for the kids with really small wrists. Color with sharpies and everyone has a fun and personalized bracelet!

We didn't end up using these
I wasn't paying attention and didn't realize we needed to have fabric markers and other things for decorating. If you have your own stick-ons and coloring options they would be a fun activity but better for kids older than 5.

These compasses were a great hit with our children 2yr - 4th grade. They were not cheap looking, and the dial really worked. The grps enjoyed coloring the braclet, designing their own creations. We had adults coloring and wearing them too!
