great fianle for our geology unitQ!
our second graders always love this activity-- to make the "dig" easier, we add water with a sprayer to make the "soil" around the bones easier to pick apart. then at the end, the kids wash all their bones in a bucket with water and scrub them w/ a toothbrush if needed the students do learn how difficult and careful geologists have to work during this activity. We use a hot glue gun to glue the bones together and then display them on a bed of sand with rocks around and maybe some little plants.. please dont discontinue this product! it is a favorite!

Fun but time consuming
I had about nine 10 yr olds in my class learning about dinosaurs. They loved the idea of digging for fossils. This did take them more time than I thought. Only 1 child did it in about 40 min the rest have taken about 90 min. I also recommend telling then to only dig from the top not the bottom. The majority of the bones are in the center of the top of the brick.
This is a great way to practice what realyl happens when digging for fossils b/c if they dig too fast or too hard they can break the pieces. You will also want to have a vacuum ready, it makes a lot of dust.
We loved the variety of dinosaurs in each package. Once we uncovered them we washed them and then I used a glue gun to put them together.

I run my own store and purchased these to sell. I've tried them out myself as well as gotten neighborhood kids to try them and let me know what they think. I thought that this was a great buy. It's inexpensive, and since I live in a relatively poor community that's important. I'd recomend that parents help their kids when glueing them together, especially if the kids are younger. All the kids consistantly said that was the hardest part. But even so, they all said they enjoyed it. I would recomend this item.

great afternoon project
I bought this for a 6yr old and a 10yr old. both loved it. we did this on a windy aftternoon so the kids had a project to do inside. the adults participated too! the kit does cause some mess, so put down newspaper if you are doing this indoors-makes lots of dust and dirt. this kit may be harder for younger kids as it seemed to take alot of the 6yr olds energy to scrape away the dirt with the proper technique. also, some of the small arm/leg bones can be broken if you dig too hard and hit them, so gentle digging is needed. it took 2 hours to dig out and put together the dinosaurs.
FYI-glue is needed to put together the full dino.

fun for kids & educational too
These are a cool, educational toy for kids (about ages 8-11 in my opinion). They do get a little dusty when you use the brush so be sure to ventilate with an open window (to prevent sneezes or breathing in dust). Otherwise a great toy for boys and girls alike.

Wonderful Classroom Activity
I bought a set for my 2nd grade class, so they could work with two or three partners to complete it. It's going really well. We've worked for about an hour and some are still excavating and others are starting to put it together. I only wish that the pieces were interlocking, so model glue wasn't needed, but no biggie! Definately will be purchasing again for next year!

Dino Dig
My daughter wanted to dig for bones. I was very pleased when I found these kits. The only other kit I could find was $20. Way to much for as many guest that came to my party. The children ranged from 4- 10 and everyone had fun. The Kids loved it - the parents found the dust to be a little much. Overall great fun.

Fun but messy activity
The kids really enjoyed the craft, but be advised that it is very dusty. The bones are exciting to uncover and dig out, but assembling them is not as easy as pictured. I advised my "crew" to just set the bones up to see what it would look like. We tried gluing the pieces, but they didn't stay together (and they don't supply a special glue).
I recommend this craft for kids age 7 and up (unless you will be there to supervise the younger ones). (ex) My 6 yr. old grandson got a speck of the dust in his eye and proceeded to rub his eye with his dusty hand, thus exacerbating a bad situation and though I told him to stop rubbing as I was trying to get the wet rag on his eye, it was just a reflex. The older ones knew to wipe their face with their forearms I observed.
Pros: fun to dig, comes with tools
Cons: messy, no appropriate glue or places to attach the bones easily

My 2 graders were very exciting with this product. I couldn't believe how they copporated with eachother while they were digging. This was an excellent way to end the fossil unit!!!!!!!!
If the price was reduced more teacher would probably buy more. Most of the time we have to use our own fumd to buy things for our classes.
