Ratings & Reviews

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A Staple for any literacy classroom I've slaved for years creating a similar version of this reading notebook with composition notebooks. These journals are the perfect size for book boxes and students to grab and use. It has clearly defined sections for students to set goals, log their books read, and a reference section that outlines reading strategies along with book genres. The best feature is the letter section where students can respond to the book they are reading by authoring a letter to me. I can easily collect these letters and take home to write a letter back.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Perplexed and disappointed I'm a regular at Oriental trading and I am usually happy with my purchases. I am completely mystified by this journal. You see on the video that there are four sections and indeed there are but what the video doesn't show you is that there are over 45 pages of blank "letters." I have no idea to whom the children are supposed to write letters or how they would fill the two full pages each about the books. The pages that have what appeared to be graphic organizers are not that at all but are just random boxes. Consequently, they are wasted pages. The glossary of terms is great but that is only a few pages. The what do you think of this book page is great-A true reader response- but it is only one page. Since I ordered a bunch of things I received quite a large box. I would have to go and get a small box that would fit these in order to return them. I am really frustrated. And disappointed. -L

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Fine for grades 2-3, skimpy for older kids I bought these for my 4th grade classroom, and was a bit disappointed. I'll still use them, but not as originally planned. The pages are very thin and printing bleeds through to the other side. Most of the pages are taken up with a forced (2 page) letter format. The speech bubbles shown on the cover are only on a few pages, between sections, and do not correspond with any writing spaces. They are used as graphics only, not as interesting graphic organizers (as I had expected).
