They hold together well out of the package so you can draw on them without it falling apart. We used sharpies, markers and watercolors and they all worked well.

Tedious, but big hit with the class!

The puzzle pieces are pretty hard to separate. I had a few kids damage their pieces when trying to tear them apart, they were pulling so hard the front and back of the pieces were separating, so I ended up separating the entire class. But they really enjoyed getting to decorate their pieces.

Do these puzzles come already assembled so the kids (in a classroom) would be able to start decorating them right away?

BEST ANSWER: Yes. Each puzzle comes assembled and you have to tear the pieces apart. They are perforated, but be careful.
