There are two types of Gorillas: western lowland gorillas and eastern mountain gorillas. Both live in central Africa south of the Sahara Desert, and both are critically endangered. Gorillas are the largest of the great apes, with adults easily topping 400 pounds. History:
The geographic range of all types of Gorillas extends from Lake Victoria to the western coast of central Africa. The range of the Eastern Gorilla is much smaller, and the two types are separated by large swaths of farmed and developed land. Although Gorillas are critically endangered, significant efforts are underway to protect them.
