At the beginning of each year, it is so important to engage students in writing opportunities that interest and excite them. You want to "hook" your students into loving to write. I'll share a few grab-and-go writing activities that can meet the needs of all of your learners, from day one!

Our students do not always come in on grade level each year. I find it such a struggle to meet the needs of all of my learners from day one, especially during writing. Students who come in below grade level and are still working on basic letter formations will benefit from the Busy Bee Dry Erase Alphabet Cards. I love that the cards included lowercase and uppercase letters. The cards are a perfect size to hole punch and add a ring to keep students organized.Ready, Set, Write! The Image Hunt & Write Dry Erase Cards will help students practice their letters, letter sounds, and also aid in manuscript writing practice. This is a great resource for ELL learners who are still trying to put an image with a word. Students will feel extremely successful with being able to locate an image and match it to the correct word. These cards would also be great to add to a writing center to help spark ideas and to use as a word bank. Ready, Set, Write! Students who are ready to be more independent writers will love to use the Story Starter Kit and Imagination Storytelling Scene Frames. Each of these activities help students begin to use the who, what, and where while writing. This is a great way to motivate students to write about different topics and expand into sequential writing with a beginning, middle, and end. Black & White Draw & Write Composition Journals have become a staple in my classroom. I love how there is a place for students to illustrate, but plenty of room to write. Make sure to check them out! Ready, Set, Write! What I love about all of these grab-and-go resources is that once you teach the activity to students, they will be able to successfully complete it independently throughout the year. All of the activities can be extended throughout the year as students are becoming stronger writers. I hope you can use some of these great writing activities in your classroom!
