Spring has sprung and if you haven't already added plants to your indoor living spaces, you'll want to soon. Adding greenery to your environment is proven to be a mood booster, and well, so is crafting, making this project a double whammy of uplifting joy! Use the old-school ink-blot, or Rorschach, technique to make mirror images of your paint design on wooden hearts. Join them together with a wooden ice cream spoon, and a butterfly is born! You can decorate your indoor plants with these flying beauties, or use them as plant or herb labels!
Paint Unfinished Wood Hearts a solid color of acrylic paint. (We chose white so that the colors that we added in the next step would really pop!).
Using the end of a wooden stick or skewer, scoop small amounts of acrylic paint onto one of the wooden hearts. You can make dots, lines, or squiggles.
Immediately flip the other painted unfinished wood heart over and press it onto the small puddles of paint. Pull them apart and let dry.
While the hearts are drying, paint your ice scream spoon and about one to two inches of a skewer. Let these dry. (If you don't have ice cream spoons, you can cut a tongue depressor down to about 2 inches long.)
Break the painted part of the skewer off and snap it into two pieces. Glue the two short pieces to the back of the spoon as the antennae and the remainder as the stick.
Line up the two hearts so that the points are touching. Add a drop of Tacky .Glue to each point and lay the ice cream spoon (the butterfly's body) on top. Let dry completely.
If desired, write the name of the plant type on the body of the butterfly and set them free in your indoor garden!
