High style does not have to mean high prices. Can you imagine paying close to $300 for ONE piece of decor for your wedding? I know I can’t. Create this geometric, Industrial Chic hanging decor for your wedding on the cheap without sacrificing style. You AND your wallet will be a rockstar!!
First things first, we need to make some of the paper straws a tad longer. To do that we need a little engineering and a bit of washi tape. Because washi tape fixes everything!! Use scissors to cut 4 paper straws in half. These will be used to create the square middle section of the shape. Next, cut 8 paper straws down to 5.5”.
Connect a cut paper straw to a non-cut, regular paper straw. To do this, we must use the magical craft supply, washi tape. Unroll a few inches of washi tape and place it, still on the roll, so the sticky side is up. Place two straws end to end and roll the washi tape onto the straws so that the tape goes on at an angle. This will help with stability and ensures your creation stays together until the big day.
Thread the thin, pliable wire through four of the shorter taped paper straws.
Form the four short straws into a square and twist the wires together to hold the square shape into place. Thread two of the longer taped paper straws onto the wire. Twist the wire around one of the square corners. Continue doing this until you have formed the geometric shape, using the photo of the finished one as a reference.
In a well ventilated area, spray paint your geometric shape. Spray paint the paper straw shape with metallic copper spray paint making sure to work in a well ventilated area. To protect your outdoor work surface, we recommend using a leftover plastic tablecloth roll from the last party you threw. Use floral wire and a glue gun to attach the faux silk flowers. Using faux silk flowers allows you to create these hanging decoration in advance so you have plenty of time for celebrating.
Tie on lengths of fun colored cording. I would recommend doing this at your venue. That way, you know exactly how long you need your string.
Hang these shapes in two’s and three’s at differing heights to make the most impact and draw guests’ eyes up. People will think you spent a fortune on your wedding decor, shhhhhh…..I won’t tell if you won’t! It will be our little secret!
