Everyone loves a good candy buffet at weddings. Let's face it, before, during or after dinner, it's become a bit of an expectation that guests have something to tide over their sweet tooth until the official cake cutting. But, all of those glass vessels can add up and require quite the space to set up shop. Check out the inspiration below for an alternative to the collected vessel candy buffet you've become familiar with. A less expensive, hassle-free option awaits!
Assemble the candy buffet structure using the directions enclosed in the shipping box. Be sure all pieces (including the plastic nail/screws) are accounted for. I recommend using a fairly large space to assemble. Gather your styling/crafting supplies.
Begin creating the streamer fringe. First, loop the streamers around your hand (fingers spread jazz hand style). The distance from thumb to pinkie or ring finger will be the right amount of length. Look as many times as you’re able to get your scissors through. Ultimately, I found that 15 loops was about my limit.
Begin cutting slits about 1/8-1/4 inches apart, leaving about 1/2 inch along the top edge of the streamers. Unravel the streamers and cut any additional slits where necessary to round out a consistent fringe.
Begin placing the first row of fringe streamers along the base of the candy buffet using Glue dots. This is a nice alternative to glue. It’s much faster to apply and easier to work with than waiting for glue to dry. Continue with the same process with the colors/pattern you desire. I alternated the light pink streamers with dark pink streamers for a fun layered effect. Don’t forget to “FLUFF” the fringe to give it nice texture.
Create streamer flowers to adorn the candy buffet. I used white streamers to create the petal portion of the flower. First, I created the same loops I previously created to make the fringe, though this time, I only used 3 fingers as a width for my loops.
Next, I stapled the center of the gathered white crepe paper streamers. Then I cut one snip on either end of the loops. So, opposite from the way I was previously cutting the fringe.
Begin pulling the layers gently apart in a circular motion. Using a bit of left-over fringed streamer, I used a glue dot to adhere to the center of the flower, then one on the back of the flower form as well to glue to the candy buffet structure. That’s it! A simple crepe flower decoration for the DIY candy buffet.
Create a fringe swag using the same method as before for the top tower and adorn with an additional crepe paper flower. Add a photo of the happy couple, place additional glass vessels to hold over-flow and create visual interest and place Small White Treat Bags in an easily accessible spot. Fill with your favorite candy treats. We used a variety of spiral lollipops, bubble gum, nostalgic candy bracelets and other treats.
