We Dig Jesus Sandbox Activity
Materials Needed
· Small cross for each student
· Sand
· Wading pools or sand boxes (one per team)
· Small shovels or scoops (one per team)
Who will be the first team to dig up all of the crosses from their "dig site?" To set up this VBS game, you'll need to create some dig sites. To do this, simply fill small wading pools or sand boxes with sand and bury one cross per team member in each dig site. Divide the students into two (or more) teams. Have teams line up about 20-25 feet away from the dig sites. On your command, one student from each team runs to their team's dig site, uses the scoop to find one cross, and then runs back to their team. Once a team member returns, the next student runs to find another cross. The first team to collect all of their crosses from their dig site wins the game!
NOTE: You can collect the crosses at the end of the game, or have each student keep the cross they found. If you decide students will keep the crosses, make sure to have enough on hand for all VBS students to play the game and get to take a cross home.
JESUS LOVES ME Egg Search Activity
Materials Needed
· 12 plastic eggs per team
· The letters J, E, S, U, S, L, O, V, E, S, M and E printed and individually cut for each team/set of plastic eggs
The goal of this Vacation Bible School game is to be the first team to find and collect eggs containing the letters to spell the phrase, "JESUS LOVES ME." You will need 12 plastic eggs per team. In each set of 12 eggs, place one letter in each egg so that together the letters spell "JESUS LOVES ME." Hide the eggs throughout a large area or in an outside space, weather permitting.
Team members will need to work together to determine what letters they need to complete the phrase. If a letter is found that is not needed, teams need to leave the egg (with the letter inside) where it was found.
The first team to collect the correct letters and spell the phrase, "JESUS LOVES ME" wins the game.
Mixed Up Pots Putting Things Back Together
Materials Needed
· Biodegradable peat fiber seed pots (one pot for every three students)
· Paper bags (one bag for each student team)
· Washi Tape and Scissors
Who can make the seed pot whole again? For this VBS game, kids will take pieces of "broken" seed pots and tape them together to resemble the original unbroken pots. To set it up, provide each team (no more than 3 students per team) with a seed pot. (Note: For best results, use pots made from biodegradable peat fiber.) Have each team decorate their pot using permanent markers. Encourage the teams to make their designs unique so they would be able to recognize their flowerpot if it was broken into pieces. After all flowerpots have been decorated, have each team cut its seed pot into 6 pieces and places them in a paper bag and give it a good shake.
Each team then pours or pulls out all 6 pieces and tries to put together their pieces back together with washi tape, to make a pot that resembles their original one.
Every VBS needs games, and these are clear winners with kids, plus they're so easy to put together!
