As a kid, my cousins and I would all clamber over the prized wishbone after Thanksgiving dinner. Getting to be the lucky one to have the chance to make a wish was one of the highlights of the holiday. With these pretty DIY Clay Wishbones there is no need to squabble over who gets the one solitary wishbone, because everyone is a winner with their own! Start by rolling Crayola Model Magic Clay into roughly 2" diameter round balls.
Next, shape the balls into long snake-like pieces.
Bend each long piece into a horseshoe shape.
Now pinch the top of each horseshoe together so the middle part touches and forms a flat-sided point at the top. Slightly pinch the bottom ends as well.
Lift the top end of each newly formed wishbone and prop on top of a pencil or dowel rod. This will give the wishbone a slight bend as it dries. Allow the wishbones to dry overnight. They will remain flexible and lightweight even after drying. If you were to paint them a solid color you could do so before they are fully set.
Using washi tape, tape off sections of the wishbone to begin painting.
Take your wishbones to a well-ventilated area and spray paint the top portion of each with Metallic Copper Spray Paint.
Tape off the next portion of the wishbone and paint your final color. I created a light sage green color by mixing a bit of green, white and a dab of blue acrylic paint. Remove the tape from each section while the paint is still a tad wet to avoid sticking.
Using the free Printable Place Cards Tags Template found here, either print onto a piece of paper cut from the Kraft paper roll, or print and then trace onto Kraft paper. Cut out each tag and add each your guests' names.
Tie each tag to a wishbone using gold baker's twine.
