This Supply of the Month challenge was a particularly fun test of our crafting skills because it involves taking the simple clothespin and making it into something beautiful! I have enjoyed making clothespin wreaths before like this summer bucket list wreath, but I wanted to try something new with this challenge. These clothespin snowflakes make for one-of-a-kind, inexpensive decor to dress up your walls this winter - made with just clothespins and glue!
I used a mix of regular clothespins, small clothespins, and glitter clothespins. To turn them into snowflakes, start by pulling the clothespins apart! Just twist to pop the two wood pieces out from the metal spring. You will need 8 clothespins for each snowflake, so break apart enough to make as many snowflakes as you want to create. The glitter clothespins come in a pack of 48 - enough to make 6 snowflakes. You will make a bit of a glittery mess when pulling them apart so do it over a protected work surface.
Combine the two clothespin parts by running a bead of hot glue down the flat side of one and sandwiching them together. Continue with the rest of the clothespins.
To create a snowflake, start by gluing four clothespin pairs into a plus sign by adding glue to the top edge of each clothespin and holding in place until set.
Add four more clothespins by gluing them in between each of the four quadrants. Hold in place until set.
Once you've added all 8 clothespins, glue a wood circle in the middle of the back of the snowflake to provide additional support and a flat backing.
Display your snowflakes by grouping them together on the wall. A 3M Command Strip or even poster putty works great for holding them up. I used a mix of plain wood and metallic glitter snowflakes, but you could always paint the tops of your snowflakes different colors if you want!
