Say what you want to say with our tutorial for a frameable DIY Customizable Sand Art Quote! This simple 20-minute project puts a brand new spin on the classic "glue and shake" glitter method you learned as a child, but this time we're raising the bar with rainbow colored sand. Scroll on to find out how you can pull off the totally customizable look using a few of our very favorite craft supplies below.
Use a ruler and pair of scissors to cut sheets of white paper stock into individual 5"x5" squares.
To create a color or shade not ready-made in the pack of rainbow craft sand, pour individual colors into a paper cup and mix with a toothpick until the color looks even. In this example, we mixed white, yellow, and blue to create teal sand.
Cut 6-inch pieces of washi tape, and press them in place around the outside edges of the paper squares to create a border. You will be removing the tape later on to create a cut-off lettering detail, so no need for it to be perfect!
Squeeze tacky glue into a paper cup and add a tablespoon of water to it. Stir with a toothpick until smooth. Dip individual alphabet sponges into the mixed glue and dab off the excess on a sheet of scrap paper. Carefully press the glued letter into place on the cut paper square. To achieve a cool cut-off look like we did, arrange your letter so that it overlaps part of the washi tape border. Leave the sponge in place and work quickly to glue and place all of the alphabet sponges to create your phrase.
Once all of the letter sponges have been glued and placed on the paper, remove each of them quickly, setting them aside on the scrap paper used in Step 4, and then pour your mixed sand over the glue on the paper. The more sand, the better!
Allow the sand to set for 30 seconds, and then gently lift the paper and shake the excess sand off into the paper cup to reveal your phrase.
Remove the washi tape border to finish creating the cut-off lettering detail, and then spray the entire paper with adhesive spray to set the sand permanently. Allow the sand quote paper to dry for 1-2 hours before handling, and then put it in a frame to display anywhere in your home.
