Ready-made cute and colorful bags from the store can cost anywhere from $10 (on the ultra low end!) to well over $50. For those of us on a budget, that can be a bit of a stretch. Well, what if we told you that you can make your very own one-of-a-kind DIY Felt Monstera Leaf Canvas Tote for less than $2 a pop? Making this adorable bag will be a blast, and only take 30 minutes. Download the Free Monstera Leaf Printable here! Print the Monstera Leaf Template on Cardstock, then cut it out with scissors.
Place the cut leaf template on top of your first sheet of Gigantic Fantastic Felt, and trace around the edges of the template onto the felt using a fine tip permanent marker. Repeat on all sheets of felt you wish to use.
Use scissors to carefully cut the traced leaf shapes out of the felt. Make sure to cut a little inside the lines so that you don’t see any traces of the marker lines when you’re done.
Lay the felt leaves on top of DIY Canvas Tote Bags, and trim them to suit your desired design using scissors. For example, the leaves in this particular design were cut straight across the bottom for a seamless look. Next, add Aleene’s® Original Tacky Glue® across the entire back side of each leaf. It’s best to spread the glue out with a foam paint brush if you have one handy!
Slip a piece of scrap cardboard or plastic inside the bag to avoid glue seepage. Lay the leaf glue side down on top of a DIY Canvas Tote Bag, and press firmly into place. Allow the bags to dry completely for 3 hours before removing the scrap cardboard.
