I have to admit, I was thrilled when I heard that pom poms were the chosen supply for February’s Supply of the Month Challenge! I have loved crafting with these fluffy and colorful pom pom balls since my childhood. I’ve decorated everything from balloons, to mouse pads, to backpacks with them, but this DIY pom pom flower pillow is a first for me! I started with a pretty blue pillow and just added pom poms and felt leaves to make flowers. You can do this project in under an hour with no sewing required!

Chose a selection of your favorite colors from the 1 lb. bag of pom-poms. You’ll want one medium sized pom pom (this will become the center of the flower) and 9 – 10 smaller pom poms in each color. I also used a small pack of white pom poms for my pillow.

To create a flower, start by adding a generous dab of hot glue to the back of the medium sized pom pom. You can also use fabric glue, but I find that hot glue helps secure the pom poms in place quickly without the risk of them sliding off the pillow before they dry! Choose where you want to place your first flower on the front of the pillow and hold down the pom-pom for a few seconds until the hot glue dries.

Continue making the flower by adding the smaller pom poms around the larger center pom pom by securing to the pillow with hot glue.

To create the leaves just free-hand cut out a leaf shape from green felt.

Add the leaf to the flower with a dab of hot glue on the wider end and positioning it slightly under the flower.

You can make smaller white flowers to fill in gaps between the larger flowers using the white pom poms and smaller felt leaves.

This pretty pillow will last for a long time if it is used for more decorative use and doesn’t receive a lot of wear and tear.
