Spring offers the perfect opportunity to test out your green thumb! With this easy DIY craft idea, you'll also have the chance to add some creativity. Below, we're showing you how to achieve a totally one-of-a-kind look by combining a simple Square Flowerpot with a set of Ceramic Markers. No two pots will be the same, and the sky is the limit when it comes to the design, so get ready to experiment and to get playful with pattern.
Start by laying one Square Flowerpot out on a flat surface. Grab a light colored Ceramic Marker, and write out a word on the side of the pot—we wrote out the name of the herb that we planned for the flowerpot. You can use block letters or even calligraphy!
If you aren’t confident in your calligraphy skills, try pulling up a download online (like this one), and then type your word into the “Enter Your Own Text” box. All you have to do from there is copy the lettering that shows up on the screen! This is an easy way to fake custom calligraphy in mere minutes.
Allow the first color of paint from the marker to dry for five minutes. Pick up the black Ceramic Marker, and draw right over the light colored word. This will help give the word extra visibility and weight. Allow the paint from the black Ceramic Marker to dry for 30 minutes before handling.
For the second painting method, lay out another Square Flowerpot on a flat surface. Use a ruler and pencil to draw a geometric design on all four surfaces of your pot. Anything goes, so get creative and experiment with different designs! Just erase the pencil marks with a heavy duty eraser if you change your mind mid-sketch.
Once you’re satisfied with your design, draw over the pencil lines with the black Ceramic Marker. Allow the black paint from the marker to dry for five minutes.
Grab a light colored Ceramic Marker (yellow was used here), and fill in select parts of your design to give it personality and interest. Allow the paint from the yellow Ceramic Marker to dry for 30 minutes before handling.
Finish by filling your hand-drawn and painted DIY Square Flowerpots with potting soil and your favorite herbs or flowers. Now you can enjoy your artistic handiwork all season long!
