First, a confession: I’m not all that passionate about Halloween decor. I know, I know…How could I possibly call myself a DIYer and not have any love for this ultra creative holiday? Well, the reason really comes down to my struggle with Halloween’s traditionally bold and bright color palette. It’s tough for me to find a good balance between the iconic aesthetic of the holiday and my tendencies toward more minimalist decor. So, this year I decided to challenge myself to come up with a happy medium between the two, and the result is this sleek and stylish DIY Painted Razors Pumpkin centerpiece. Squeeze a hearty dollop of Crayola White Acrylic Paint onto a Long White Platter, and then use a Foam Brush to paint the surface of a Foam Orange Pumpkin white. Allow the paint to dry for 30 minutes before giving the pumpkin a second coat of white paint. Wait one hour between coats for any subsequent layers of paint. These particular pumpkins needed two coats of paint each to achieve the finish you see pictured in the final look.

Hold the cut razors against the side of the painted pumpkin with your fingertips, and lightly trace the shape onto the surface of the pumpkin with a pencil. Repeat with the other razor templates, alternating the direction, until you’re satisfied with the design.
Squeeze small dollops of Chromacryl Acrylic Paint onto the same Long White Platter you used before, and mix your colors using Foam Brushes until you have the desired palette. You could choose to mix up a collection of traditional Halloween colors (think: jet black, orange, purple), or use a more muted, fall-inspired color palette like I did.
Paint in the razors that you traced in Step 3 using a small Nylon Paint Brush. This type of tiny detail paint brush can get into sharper corners then the large foam brushes can. One coat of the mixed paint was all it took for this particular demonstration, but if you can still see the white pumpkin through the painted razors, wait 30 minutes before painting a second coat of the individual colors.
Allow the paint to fully dry for at least one hour before handling the finished pumpkins, then set them in the center of your holiday-ready dining room table, buffet or entryway console along with Gold Glitter Pumpkin Votive Holders and White Tea Light Candles.
