Get ready for Valentine's Day with this DIY Heart Piñata tutorial. Use cardboard boxes (perfect way to recycle the Oriental Trading boxes) and red tissue paper to create this party favorite! Make the piñata any size, fill with candy and treat and treasures! This is a great project to have the entire family help with.

Step

Cut red tissue paper into long 2 inch wide strips (the long way). You can cut at least 8 tissue paper pieces together. My heart piñata is 22 inches at the largest part of the heart shape and 19 inches long. You will need about 20 strips (with 8 layers of tissue).

Next cut 1.5 inch slits in the tissue paper. This will be the fringe of the piñata.

You will want two identical heart cardboard pieces cut from the card board using a box cutter or craft knife. Be sure to protect the surface you are cutting on.

Using a hot glue gun, glue the strip onto the edge of the first heart. Make sure and leave about a 5-inch space where the strip is not glued down. This is the opening in which you will be able to add the treats.

Glue the next heart onto the other heart. You can also use masking tape instead of the glue gun. Make sure and leave the flap open so you can add the candy!

Using a glue stick, adhere the tissue to the piñata. I glued it on the front, then the back and then the sides. Start at the bottom and move to the top.

Punch a hole at the bottom of the heart and push a tissue tassel into the piñata. This add a little flair to the red heart. Now it is time to hang the piñata and let the party start!
