Usher in sweet dreams with this DIY Heart Shaped Plank Sign. Customize the colors to match your little girls room or to coordinate with your Valentine’s Day décor. Using a flat bristled paintbrush and acrylic paint, paint the slats of the DIY Unfinished Wood Heart Sign each a different color. For the slat you will be applying washi tape to, apply a layer of white paint as a primer. For the glitter slat, apply a layer of gold paint. Doing this will ensure that none of the wood shows through the glitter or washi tape.
To create polka dots, dip the very tip of a pencil eraser into acrylic paint. Lightly tap the painted eraser onto a wooden plank. Continue dipping and painting polka dots onto the sign until the entire plank is full of playful polka dots.
Adhere Black and White Washi Tape to the wood plank sign. Line up the pattern in the washi tape to create a fully patterned slat. Use scissors or a craft knife to cut off the excess washi.
Apply a layer of Mod Podge® onto the wood heart sign with a Sponge Paint Brush. While the Mod Podge® is still wet, carefully sprinkle glitter and allow time for the Mod Podge® to dry.
Lightly handletter a sweet sentiment onto the dried heart slat sign with a pencil. Fill in the saying with a Metallic Sharpie® Marker. This will make sure that the paint does not show through the dried glitter. Apply Metallic Stickles® Glitter Glue directly on top of the saying and allow to dry.
It is super easy to customize this sign with different colors or a different hand lettered name or word. Use sandpaper to rough up the edges for a more rustic look. Just think of all the possibilities!
