Okay, so we all know it’s very hard to prevent a mess entirely when you’re doing art with kids, BUT having your own art aprons for kids is definitely a step in the right direction! We made a ton of art aprons in our art studio this week and they were so much fun! Here’s the super simple how-to.

Design your apron. I gave the kids two options before painting. They could tape out a design or draw out a design in Sharpie®. Some kids chose both.

Paint over your design with neon fabric paints. You can use a brush to move the paint around once you spray the paint or squeeze it out of the bottle. If you are using spray bottles adults may need to help since the spray bottles can be tough for little hands to use.

Let the apron dry and peel off your tape. I found ours were dry in less than an hour. The tape will leave white marks where the paint didn’t touch the apron. Kids think this is super cool! If you used Sharpies® instead, you’ll skip this part.

The last step is to use a glue gun to add on pom-poms. This six-year-old couldn’t get enough of this step. She was just loving her pom-pommed art apron!
