Turn elementary craft supplies, like craft foam and glitter glue into an adorable Mermaid Wreath. How cute will this look hanging on a front door or in a little girls room! The scale pattern looks like a mermaid's tale, but doesn't scream "I'm a mermaid!" to guests ringing the doorbell.
Download the Free Printable Scallop Template. Click "download template" button under the materials list to get the free printable. Print off the scallop template and trace onto sheets of craft foam. Tracing over the template on top of the foam will cause an indentation in the foam. If you find the pen is tearing the paper you can use a stylus or the pen with the ink retracted to make the outlines on the foam.
Cut out the scallops with scissors. You will need about 50 scallops strips total to cover the wreath form.
Use glitter glue to add glitter to the edges of each scallop. Set aside and wait for the glue to dry completely before moving on to step 4.
Use a glue gun to attach the scallops to the wreath form. Offset the scallops strips so the layers of scallops are not lined up. Start with a full scallop on the edge of row one and half of a scallop on the edge for row two. This creates the scale look. Continue alternating and adding scallops until the wreath is covered. Trim ends of foam as needed.
Once you have filled the entire wreath form with scallops there will be a small space where they begin and end. To cover that gap you will wrap satin ribbon around the wreath and attach with a hot glue gun. To hang the wreath, add a loop of ribbon to hang from.
