Moms are always looking for places to store things—from keys to a secret candy stash to a collection of macaroni jewelry, there are never enough places for all the things! These sweet little baskets made from cotton rope and glue (yes, that's it!) are the perfect size for a bedside table, vanity or desk. Add an extra special touch of love with a colorful heart and the mom in your life is sure to adore it.
Cover a plate or tray with parchment or wax paper. Begin coiling the cotton rope, gluing together as you go.
Keep coiling the rope until you get a round coaster-like shape that's about one rope-width wider than the bottom of your glass jar.
Once you remove the jar, it's time to make little basket handles. Instead of gluing the rope along the top edge as you've been doing, hold the rope up to make a handle and glue it down about 1 1/2 inches away. Insert a straight pin to hold in place. Repeat on the other side. Cut the rope and glue the end neatly on the back, tucked under one handle.
Mix a half of teaspoon of acryic paint with three tablespoons of water; mix until paint is evenly dispersed in the water. Cut a piece of rope (about six to eight inches long) and submerge in the liquid paint. Once it's saturated, squeeze out and lay flat or hang to dry.
Once the painted rope is dry, shape it into a heart and glue the ends together.
