Our ridiculously easy retro-inspired 30-minute tutorial for DIY Monstera Leaf Drink Sleeves! It’s no secret that these tropical branches are a huge trend this season. Their funky, jagged shape is easy to replicate on just about anything—including your go-to canned and bottled drink of choice. The bonus? You can customize your DIY drink sleeves with different colors so that guests can claim their bottles with ease.
Print the Monstera Leaf Printable Template onto White Cardstock, and cut it out with scissors. Be careful to trim as close to the edges of the template as possible to achieve the best shape in the final step of this project.
Choose your favorite color out of the set of Neon Fabric Markers. Lay one DIY Can Cover on a flat surface, and then place the cut monstera leaf template on top of the can cover wherever you’d like the leaf to be. I kept the leaves oriented out towards the edges of the can cover, but the pattern is completely up to you! Very lightly trace the edges of the template using your Neon Fabric Marker of choice, and then repeat the steps re-positioning the template each time for variety.
Color in each of your traced leaves with the same Neon Fabric Marker used in Step 2. Note that there will be extensive bleeding of the color in this step, but that’s intentional for this design. Don’t go overboard with your coloring in as the pigment may then end up soaking through the can cover, which you don’t want. Just color it in lightly enough so that you don’t see the white can cover through the marker color.
Repeat Steps 1-3 for each can cover you plan to decorate, including printing and cutting separate monstera leaf templates for each. Allow the colors in Step 3 to dry for 20 minutes on each of your can covers.
Lay the monstera leaf template back on top of your leafy shapes, and trace over them with a fine tip black permanent marker. You may experience a small amount of bleed from the black marker, but this also adds to the watercolor-like effect, so don’t be alarmed. It should be minor as long as you waited 20 minutes between Steps 4 and 5. Repeat on all the monstera leaves on each of the can covers.
Allow the ink to dry for 30 minutes, and then you’re ready to slip your finished DIY Monstera Leaf Drink Sleeves over your favorite canned or bottled beverages all summer long!
