Nautical parties are popular all year round. They are clean, classic, and fairly easy to create. I'm excited to share a fun little DIY for your next nautical-themed party! I had so much fun making these Nautical Coasters for our recent Summer Clambake. They are super easy to make and can be painted with almost any nautical design to match your celebration. Let's get started!
Cut a 3.5 inch circle from mat board or a craft cork sheet. TIP: Use a glass or small bowl as a template, simply place the glass upside down on your material and trace the circle with a pencil. Add a dab of hot glue to the end of the Natural Cording. Starting in the center of the circle, wind the cording in a circular pattern, gluing it down along the way.
Continue to glue and wind the cord until you cover the entire circle.
Once you cover the circle, cut the cord and add glue to the end to keep it from fraying.
Gather your paint, paint brush and stencil shape. You can use any nautical-themed shape you want. Maybe an anchor or fish shape? I cut a star fish from mat board with my craft cutting machine. If you have better painting skills than I do, ditch the stencil and paint your own freehand designs!

Next, place your stencil in the center of the coaster and dab paint until you have a solid painted image on the coaster.
Repeat Step 6 to create a pattern.
