Presiding over a ghastly tablescape of nightmarish details looms the head of none other than the Pumpkin King, Jack Skellington. Create this unique pumpkin centerpiece for your scary Halloween party. This Nightmare Before Christmas inspired centerpiece is made from a craft pumpkin, paint and faux flowers. The pumpkin head is then elegantly arranged on a white cake stand with flowers and ribbon, and placed in the center of a truly nightmarish soiree.
Gather your supplies. Start with a white craft pumpkin, or paint a craft pumpkin with white acrylic paint.
Use a pencil to lightly draw on two round circles for the eyes of the pumpkin head.
Using a pencil, create two narrow tear drop shapes to create a nose like that of Jack Skellington.
Use the pencil to make a light dot at each “temple” of the pumpkin head. These will be the connecting points to draw on the pumpkin’s grin. Go ahead and give your pumpkin a big smile or any other facial expression you prefer.
Use black acrylic paint to trace the facial features and fill in the eyes.
Use a thin paintbrush to add vertical lines to the mouth of the pumpkin head centerpiece. They can be imperfect, and should resemble stitches. Allow the paint to dry thoroughly before moving on to the next step.
Place the painted pumpkin on a white cake stand. Trim a large dahlia to approximately twelve inches, and gently bend the wired stem around the base of the painted pumpkin head in a curve.
Add trimmed stems of eucalyptus leaves to the base of the cake stand to elevate the “chin” of the Jack Skellington pumpkin head. Add other scrap greenery you may have, the creepier, the better.
Tuck sprigs of flowers on either side of the pumpkin head, leaving the center portion open and free of flowers.
Using wired ribbon, create a large bow with tails, and then a smaller one. Dovetail the ends with scissors. Glue the small bow to the center of the large bow using hot glue, and allow it to set until cool. Then, attach the entire double bow to the center of the “chin” of the painted pumpkin head, and you’re ready to display your inspired Nightmare Before Christmas centerpiece for a scary Halloween party.
