Looking for a simple DIY project to take your summer luau party from drab to fab? Grab some acrylic craft paint to easily transform ceramic tiki mugs into pink ombre flower vases for all your tropical parties this summer. This paint layering technique creates the perfect gradient. Once painted, the tiki mugs are ready to fill with fresh or faux tropical flowers and adorn a table at your next tropical party.
You can choose to paint your vases using either spray paint or acrylic paint but the process is the same. For this tutorial I used just acrylic paint. Begin by painting the tiki mugs with a coat of white acrylic paint. This white paint will act as a primer for the colored acrylic paint. Let dry then begin to add the colored acrylic paint starting on the bottom. Paint 1/3 of the tiki mug with the darkest paint color.
Now add your next color on the middle 1/3 of the tiki mug. Finish by painting the final, lightest, color on the top 1/3 of the tiki mug.
