You know when you’re getting everything together for a backyard barbecue and you want something to throw all the silverware and napkins into? We’ve created a simple way to make a unique silverware caddy out of an unfinished wooden planter box – a one stop shop for party goers to grab all their necessities – silverware, napkins and straws! We’re so drawn to pops of color in geometric patterns, especially on raw wood. So creating a DIY Outdoor Silverware Caddy with a touch of modern flair was the perfect project to get us ready for a backyard party. This caddy makes throwing everything together for a spontaneous backyard barbecue so easy!
Choose what kind of design you want to paint on the front of the wooden planter box and apply washi tape to tape the area off to be painted.
Brush on one coat of the acrylic craft paint and let dry. Apply a second coat of paint and let that coat dry. Remove washi tape.
Measure and cut two pieces of card stock, cardboard or balsa wood to fit as dividers inside the wooden box. If you want to be able to re-purpose the wooden box, opt for card stock or cardboard that you can tape in. If you are planning on making this a permanent caddy, cut balsa wood to size and glue along edges and let dry.
Place your party supplies, such as silverware, straws and napkins, in each section of the caddy. We love this copper cutlery, navy striped paper straws, and festive napkins.
So often, many of projects that become favorites are those that can be used in multiple ways. We can’t wait to use this idea to create a caddy for craft supplies. For instance, you can fill with paintbrushes, colored pencils and markers. And how cute would this be with succulents in it?
