Whether it's a Memorial Day BBQ or a 4th of July block party, I've got some simple and fun DIY patriotic balloon ideas in red, white, and blue to add an extra special touch to your get together! Read on to see how you can make your own tassels to hang from balloons, create USA balloons with star stickers, and use colorful patriotic washi tape to decorate balloon strings!
To begin making Patriotic Tassel and Fringe Balloons, inflate your 36″ balloon at a party store or using a personal helium tank. You can add Hi-Float® before inflating the balloon to keep it afloat longer (up to several days!). To make tassels to hang from the balloon string, start by cutting the fringe banner into single color sections (e.g., to make a blue tassel, cut off a blue section from the banner).
To make a tassel, just roll the garland section up tightly and tie at the top with string. Use the ends of the string to tie the tassel to the balloon.
To make patriotic fringe, unroll a length of patriotic ribbon and run the fringe scissors along each edge. Secure to the bottom of the balloon with a piece of clear tape. To finish the balloon, add a length of the patriotic wire garland to the balloon string with a piece of tape. Now your patriotic balloon has festive tassels, fringe, and garland! Use the leftover supplies to decorate the rest of your party!

To make flags to decorate the balloon string, trim the paper flags from their sticks and add a piece of clear tape down the side. Wrap the tape around the balloon string.
To spell USA on the balloon, use the small star stickers from the package. Lay them out to get the size and shape of the letters you want before adding them to the balloon. To add to the balloon, just peel off the backing and stick them on! Take care in placing the stickers on the balloon, because they are hard to peel off and adjust. You don’t want to pop the balloon!

Add washi tape flags to the balloon string by folding a length of washi tape over itself onto the balloon string.
Finish the pennant by cutting a v-shaped notch into the end of the washi tape with scissors. Continue down the length of the balloon string. You can always make these in advance by adding them to a length of curling ribbon and then tying the ribbon onto the balloons once inflated.
