Create a Pirate Ship Mast straight from a shipwreck with this step-by-step tutorial. This project makes the perfect prop or backdrop for a pirate party.
OPTIONAL – Apply a coat of wood stain or paint of your choice to the closet rod and dowels. Attach a wood finial to the end of the closet pole with wood glue.
Starting from the top, attach the smallest dowel to the closet rod with a diagonal lashing using the Natural Cording. Repeat with the two remaining dowels, with the longest at towards the bottom of the rod.
Attach the Large Creepy Cloth Pirate Flag to the top dowel with hot glue, letting the bottom of the flag loosely rest on the second dowel.
Cut a 4-foot length of Black Gossamer and glue it to the middle dowel, like you did with the flag. Then with scissors, cut the bottom of the Black Gossamer to create a tattered sail. Repeat with a 6-foot length of gossamer for the bottom sail.
Lean it against the wall for a backdrop or set it inside a large planter with sand to stand it upright. I covered the sand with a cloth and lots of pirate booty! You can even put it in an outdoor umbrella stand and cover the base with pirate booty.
