This fun pool noodle boat kids’ craft idea is a perfect way to beat summertime boredom. Kids can create and decorate their own boat with friends and get ready to race! Kids will love imagining with these mini pool noodles boats all summer. They are great for bathtub play or to take to the pool this summer! Let kids use their creativity when making a boat that is just their style.
You will want to make sure and have adult supervision for this step. Using a serrated knife, cut the pool noodles with a sawing motion. You can choose to make round boat bottoms by cutting the pool noodle into a donut shape. Or, try making half noodle boats by cutting 4-5 inch pool noodle pieces, and then cut them lengthwise into two halves.
Cut shapes out of colorful foam sheets. You can cut triangle or trapezoid shapes for the sails.
Using Sharpie® Markers, draw patterns on your sails. Kids love this part! Let them decorate their mini ships! Some fun patterns for the sails include: Stripes, chevron, scallops, polka-dots, and stars.
Add foam numbers to the sails. These bright number stickers look great on the sails and makes for pool noodle boat racing fun!
Again, make sure there is adult supervision for this step. Create a slit at the top of the sail and at the bottom of the sail using scissors. Next Push a craft stick through the bottom of the sail, up through the top, so the stick is behind your pattern and number (the front of the sail).
Create a slit in the foam pool noodle to stick the craft stick sail in.
Let kids play for hours with these cute pool noodle boats in the pool or bathtub! This is a perfect summertime craft for kids. My kids have loved taking their pool noodle boats to our community pool and racing their boats with friends. Such a fun and inexpensive way to encourage summer creativity and imagination.
