Create a glowing centerpiece for your fall celebrations with this DIY pumpkin terrarium. The pumpkin comes already hollowed out and ready for you to add fun, decorative elements like battery-operated candles, moss, seasonal faux gourds and a friendly bird. Large dahlias and an artfully arranged length of ribbon add elegance to this pretty DIY fall home decor project.

This hollow faux pumpkin comes in a soft shade of orange. To give our centerpiece some depth, paint a deeper shade of orange acrylic paint onto the pumpkin with a wide paintbrush.

Next, brush on a bit of metallic sheen paint in a copper color.

Metallic paint can also be lightly brushed onto acorns, which will be added to the design later. The metallic paint gives the entire project a more luxurious and expensive look.

Place a battery-operated candle into a gold candle holder, and flip the switch to "on". Place the candle holder into the pumpkin, toward the back left.

Place foam pumpkins and faux gourds into the pumpkin, and arrange moss around the edges, as shown. Be sure to leave some room in the front.

In the front of the arrangement, add a contrasting color of moss. Here, reindeer moss has been used. Nestle a couple shimmering acorns into the moss.

Add a string of warm white lights, coiling the end loosely around your finger. Stretch and arrange the lights and bury the base behind the pumpkins. You can place a little moss over the top to help conceal it even more. I love the way these tiny lights add sparkle and warmth to the design. Place a little bird in the front of the arrangement.

Wrap a length of wired ribbon around the pumpkin's stem and tie it into a bow. I like to add a dot of hot glue behind the stem of the pumpkin to ensure the ribbon bow stays on securely.

Using hot glue, attach loose leaves and flowers from a faux floral bouquet to the top of the pumpkin, as shown. Now your unique fall centerpiece is complete! Be sure to see how we incorporated this project into our Orange & Plum Rustic Thanksgiving Table for even more inspiration!
