Let's make it rain! The kiddos and I made these musical instruments from craft rolls, washi tape, duct tape, Sharpies and rice. This is an easy craft for beginners - just make sure the younger kids do not eat the rice or beans. It is pretty amazing what you can do with a toilet paper roll and some tape, right? Follow along as Ella and Annie design their very own DIY rain sticks to mimic the soothing sounds of outdoors!
Start by wrapping the white craft rolls in washi tape or colorful duct tape. We combined the two types of tape on one of the craft rolls.
Use the duct tape to completely cover the bottom of the craft roll. This will hold the rice and beans inside the craft roll.
Fill the craft roll about halfway (or less) with a mixture of rice, beans and corn kernels.
Add tissue paper squares on top of the rice and beans. The tissue paper will slow the rice and beans down when they shake the rain stick. Seal off the open end of the craft roll with duct tape. Decorate the rain stick with Sharpies!
