Use a flat-bristled paintbrush and acrylic paint to dry brush paint a DIY Stained Wood Plank Sign. To achieve the dry brush look, lightly dip your paintbrush into the paint and then lightly swipe the paintbrush over the wood surface without adding more paint to the brush. Repeat this process until there is no more paint on the brush. Having the wood show through the paint is the look you're going for.
Download, print and cut out the Santa Mug Sign Template. Arrange the templates on the wood plank sign, making sure to leave plenty of room for the sisal tree and other embellishments above the mug. Rub a pencil onto the back of the black line mug template. Use washi tape to place the template onto the plank sign and then use a ballpoint pen to trace the printable. This process transfers the mug outline onto your project. Once you've finished tracing, remove the template to reveal the traced mug silhouette underneath. Since white is not technically a printed color, it won't transfer over when you do the printed image transfer in the next step – so you'll need to make a white base for the colored mug to be transferred onto. Fill the in the mug silhouette with white paint and allow time for the paint to dry.
To do the printed image transfer technique, apply a thin layer of Matte Mod Podge over the areas you will be applying the images.
While the Mod Podge is still wet, place the printables print side down onto the sign and rub the image into the wood using a Wood Craft Stick. Carefully line up the mug image with the white painted silhouette and place the image face down making sure to rub with a wooden craft stick to insure transfer. Allow the image to dry for 24 hours.
Use a spray bottle full of water to dampen the paper. With a gentle finger, rub the paper off, working from the edge inward. Once all the paper is off, apply a thin layer of Matte Mod Podge to protect the image.
Use hot glue to adhere Wool Felt Pom Poms to the top and bottom of the wood sign.
Use wire cutters to clip off the wood base of a sisal tree. Next, cut the back half of the bristles off of the sisal tree.
Cut individual beads from the Metallic Beaded Necklace Assortment. Use hot glue to carefully adhere them to the sisal tree. Adhere a jingle bell to the top of the tree.
Adhere the sisal tree, Mini Glitter Ornaments, Tiny Pom Poms, Mini Felt Trees, and chenille stems to the top of the mug image using a hot glue gun. Way to go! You just created your own vintage Christmas sign! Prop it on a shelf or mantel or hang it near your Christmas tree for everyone to enjoy.
