Tassels are having a moment right now, and are especially hot during the summer season! For this month’s Supply of the Month Challenge, we were tasked with using this trendy supply. I used these petite tassel charms along with some larger colorful tassels to create a boho-inspired utensil caddy for summer entertaining and picnics. You can transform a plain wooden utensil caddy in 30 minutes with just tassels and a glue gun. My kind of summer project! Read on to see how easy it is to make and don’t miss the other tassel inspiration in this month’s Craft Challenge!
To add tassels to the utensil caddy, add a small dab of hot glue to the ring part of a large colored tassel.
Carefully insert the tassel under a woven band on the side of the picnic caddy, so that the ring is not showing. The glue on the ring will adhere it to the underneath side of the basket. Continue by making a row of four large tassels.
Add a row of smaller tassels above the larger tassels in a same manner, placing two together within each woven band. Continue adding tassels until you have added them to each woven row on the front side of the utensil caddy.
Create a tassel strand to hang from the caddy handle by tying a mix of large and small tassels onto a length of string or twine. You can knot them in place to stagger them at different intervals. I alternated between the small and large tassels.
Hang the strand from the caddy handle by tying a knot in the string and trimming.
Fill your picnic caddy with colorful geometric napkins and some hot pink plastic cutlery for one cool summer picnic!
