Every construction worker needs a tool belt to easy access to tools while working! These adorable DIY Tool Belts came in super handy at our Construction Themed Birthday Party, where the kids were hard at work repairing a DIY Tool Shed. These belts require just a tiny bit of pre-party prep, and then become the perfect party activity for kids! The best part about this project? The belts are personalized, so there's no confusion over whose belt belongs to whom!
Begin by accessing the Tool Belt Printables in our Construction Party Printable Set. Customize the name labels by clicking on the text boxes in the PDF and entering each child's name. Save the PDF to your computer, print on White Cardstock, then cut out using a Paper Trimmer. Mount onto colored cardstock.
Attach a Self-Adhesive Magnet to the back of each name label.
Add a Self-Adhesive Magnet to the center of the exposed strap on the front of a Construction Tool Belt.
Next, trace the box template onto red cardstock then use scissors to cut it out. Fold into a box shape and use double-sided tape to apply the label to the lid of the box. If the box has a hard time staying closed, secure with small pieces of double-sided tape. Cut out the printable screws and nail heads.
Attach an adhesive Pop-Dot to the back of each screw and nail head printable, leaving the cover paper on the exposed side of the Pop-Dot. This allows your little party guests to stick the screws onto whatever project they're working on at a later time. Add an equal number of screw and nail heads to each box.
At this point, the tool belts become an activity for the kids at the party. Display the name labels, tool belts and hardware boxes on a table at your party, along with some Color Your Own Tool Shapes and Crayola® Cone Tip Washable Markers. As the little handymen arrive to "work," they find their name label, adhere it to a tool belt, then take a seat at an activity table where they can color their tools.
Once their tools are all colored, the little handymen can tuck them inside their tool belts along with a hardware box full of nails & screws, then head to work at the DIY Tool Shed! To "insert" the nails and screws into the tool shed, the kids simply remove the cover paper from the backs of the Pop-Dots, adhere the nails and screws to the shed, then use their tools to pound or twist them in! If the tool belt strap doesn't hold the tools in very well, you can add a magnet to the back of each tool and a magnet to the lining of the tool belt so they'll stay put.
