We all know that every birthday party needs a cake! For our Toucan Themed Birthday Party, I transformed a store-bought cake into a stunning toucan cake in just six easy steps. I absolutely love how this cake turned out and you would be amazed at how easy it was! This cake is guaranteed to leave all of your toucan-loving party guests squawking with delight! - Black Candy Melts
- Pink Candy Melts
- Blue Candy Melts
- White Candy Melts
- Bamboo Skewers
First, pick out a store-bought cake that's frosted in any bright color you prefer. Next, line a cookie sheet with parchment paper then melt Black Candy Melts in a small microwave-safe bowl.
Next, spoon a dollop of the melted chocolate onto the parchment paper. With a food-safe paintbrush, create downward strokes, pulling the melted candy melts into a feather shape. Don't worry if the feathers look bumpy or have deep grooves. That's a good thing! It will add to the texture and create a really dynamic look. After you have filled the cookie sheet with several candy feathers, put the cookie sheet in a refrigerator to cool and harden.
Now that our black feathers are complete, let's start on the pink! Follow the same exact method as you did for the black feathers. Repeat for the blue feathers as well. Note: For the blue feathers, I combined equal parts blue and white candy melts to create a lighter shade of blue.
While all of the feathers are hardening in the refrigerator, let's work on the Toucan Cake Topper Printable. After downloading and printing the Toucan Cake Topper, simply fold on the dashed line and cut out the shape of the toucan. To make sure the small feathers on the top of the toucan's head match up perfectly front to back, cut along the solid white line on the left side of the printable. Tape two Bamboo Skewers to the inside of the printable and glue together so the printable can be stuck into the cake.
Now it's time to assemble our toucan cake! Start on the side opposite of where you are planning to place the Toucan Cake Topper printable. Begin layering the Black Candy Melt feathers by simply sticking them into the frosting at a slight angle. Next, layer a section of blue feathers followed by a section of pink feathers. End with a section of black feathers again. Repeat the same pattern on the back of the cake.
Lastly, add the Toucan Cake Topper and you're done! That is one beautiful toucan. Enjoy!
