So, your mother-in-law just announced that she's planning to visit in just two weeks' time. Now you've got to get that guest room of yours in shape—and fast! Why not give her (and all future visitors) a spot in their temporary space from which to easily grab travel necessities? Our tutorial below shows you how to craft your own DIY custom wall cubbies, starting with a simple, unassuming flower box. Read on for the DIY details, including tips for mini toiletry storage, too!

Pour roughly one cup of White Acrylic Paint into a small bowl. Fill a measuring cup with tap water, and stir in about a 1/4-cup of the water at a time until the consistency of the paint goes from a thick yogurt-like texture to something akin to salad dressing. Stir well with a Foam Paint Brush. The thinned-down paint will brush on much easier than the version straight out of the bottle.

Paint your first Flower box white using the Foam Paint Brush. You may choose to paint the entire box white, or just a portion of it, as you see demonstrated here. Allow the paint to dry for 30 minutes between coats, and allow the final coat to set for at least 2 hours before handling. Repeat on however many cubbies you plan to hang.

Use the electric drill to screw the first box to the wall using drywall screws. Make sure to use a level and adjust as needed before screwing in the second drywall screw. This will ensure that the shelf is hung evenly.

Finally, fill the newly-hung shelves with all the toiletry needs your guests and visitors might need, such as paper towelettes, a clock, hairspray, and body lotion. Try storing things like Q-tips, bobby pins, and cotton balls in an assortment of Small Round Hanging Globes and Round Favor Jars for easy accessibility.
