For my Pantone Ultra Violet Wedding, I used a stunning 2-tier Ultra Violet Bas Relief cake. For such a fabulous cake I wanted to have an equally dramatic way of presenting it. My favorite luxurious display style is the suspended wedding cake. I created a garden swing style floral-laden display that is guaranteed to take your breath away. This DIY Wedding Cake Swing is surprisingly simple to make with a few supplies and my step-by-step tutorial.
First, measure and mark out 4 equally spaced drill holes onto a DIY Large Basswood Plank With Bark. One in each corner of the swing.
Then using a ¼ inch drill bit, drill holes.
Next on one side thread a piece of Natural Cording through each hole, from the bottom upwards.
When you complete threading the piece of cord will go under the swing and up through both holes on that side, suspending that side of the swing by 2 lengths of rope.
Tie the 2 lengths of cord together approx. 2 feet up from the swing. Repeat on the other side of the swing. Tie at the same point.
Tie each side of the swing to a supporting structure, an arch or beam at your venue space. Or, try out my DIY Floral & Greenery Asymmetrical Arch as the perfect support for your swing.
A key step I recommend is using a small level on the swing as you tie each side to the support. You can adjust the knot placement until the swing is level.
Next, wrap an Ivy Garland and other small violet stems around the ropes at the sides of the swing. As an alternative, add White Tulle with the greens.
Now to spray a Large Palm Leaf rose gold. I love this metallic addition. It adds glamour and texture to the whimsical swing. The cake will be placed on top of this leaf.
Now for a pop of violet. Add a sprinkling of Purple Rose Petals.
Note: Add a protective layer between the leaf and the cake e.g. a cake board or cling film. The leaf is not food safe.
Prepare the floral arrangements for the front corners of the swing. Arrange assorted faux violet and purple blooms with faux succulent picks. Add longer hanging stems from the bottom of the arrangement to flow down over the side of the swing.
Tie these together using Purple Sheer Ribbon. Place these small arrangements at the front of the swing.
Your DIY wedding cake swing is now complete. Time to add your cake. Don't forget to add the stylish Personalized Monogram Round Cake Topper to the top of your cake. This swing display will look absolutely stunning above your dessert table.
