These DIY wood photo blocks are a great excuse to get your Instagram shots off of your phone and on display! I rounded up my favorite crafting supplies including pom-poms, yarn, and paint markers in bright neon colors because summer is the perfect time to incorporate bold color into decor! Put these in an office, teen bedroom, or wherever you need dose of color. Try out multiple looks using different materials or color schemes to create a really fun display.
To decorate the blocks with the Elmer’s Painters® Neon Paint Markers, first shake the marker and press down the tip on a piece of paper until the paint flows evenly. Then use the marker to make doodles, words, or to color an entire side of the block. I colored the tops of several of my photo blocks with the paint pens.
I added colorful pom-poms in an organic wave pattern that wrapped around the photo block by adding them each individually with a dab of hot glue. I liked some of the bare wood showing, but you could cover an entire side with pom-poms or arrange them in rows or a polka dot pattern instead.
Colorful stickers and washi tape are another simple decorating option for these wood photo blocks. These neon polka dot stickers are inexpensive office supply labels.
To create the yarn-wrapped photo block, I used variegated neon yarn and started at the bottom by affixing the end of the yarn to the block with a dab of Elmer’s® glue. I then continued adding a thin bead of glue around the block and pressing the yarn into it, wrapping it tightly as I worked my way around the block to the top. Once I reached the top, I trimmed the yarn and secured it with another dab of glue. I finished my block by coloring the top with an Elmer’s® Paint Pen.
