This delightful Woodland Fairy has stepped out of the pages of a fairy tale with a DIY costume that even the craft-challenged can easily assemble with this step by step tutorial. Layers of pretty tulle, butterflies and moss are just a few of the natural elements used to create this fantasy look that is perfect for Halloween, as well as, plays and parties.

Begin with a colorful masquerade mask, for this design, a red and pink toned mask with gold triim was selected. Using hot glue, adhere a pinch of green moss to random portions of the mask, taking care not to obstruct the eye area. Apply false lashes, if desired, to the eyelid of the mask. Embellish with pearl beads, red crystals, and acorns.
Create the lovely embellished wings for your magiclal woodland fairy costume by applying a generous application of hot glue to the center portion of adult sized fairy wings. They're decorated with beautiful iridescent, glittery swirls. Apply green moss to the center of the wings to cover well, then trim a red Hermes rose with more hot glue. Allow to cool completely for about ten minutes.
Prepare to create the woodland fairy skirt by cutting a length of black cord or elastic. You'll need about three feet, which will leave enough to tie the skirt around the waist of your litte fairy once complete! Cut strips of red, ivory and lime green tulle that are about 30" in length each. Double the strip over, and loop onto the cord, pulling down to secure tightly.
Create a pattern with the red, ivory and lime green tulle, which will achieve a lovely, blended appearance to the fairy skirt. Continue adding tulle until you have reached the desired waist size for your fairy. Remember not to cut off the ends, you'll need to be able to tie the skirt in the back.
This darling woodland fairy costume also includes a charming hair accessory. It's simple to create by folding a cardboard circle over a twelve inch section of cord, then embellishing with moss,tulle, acorns, pearls, red crystals and a feather butterfly.
Create an embellishment for the bodice of the woodland fairy costume using another red Hermes Rose and a few leaves. Attach a pin back to the reverse side of the floral embellishment. This costume is created as an overlay to any basic tank or tee, and cropped or lace leggings. (Review your finished skirt in daylight to ensure proper coverage of undergarments.)
