We recently hosted a Tropical Bridal Shower and wanted to incorporate some jute placemats into our tablescape. After seeing the price tags of those beauties, we decided that we could make our own for a fraction of the price, and wow! We are we so happy with the way they turned out! Each placemat takes around an hour to make, so this is a great project to work on at night when you're binge watching your favorite TV show.

On a protected work surface, begin by folding a Burlap Circle into quarters. Pinch the center point to create a small crease in the burlap.

Add a little bit of hot glue to the raw end of a spool of Jute Cording to prevent it from unraveling. Unfold the burlap circle and secure the glued end of the cording to the center crease of the circle using a dab of hot glue. Tightly wind the jute cording into a small circle, securing with hot glue as you wind. Continue winding until you have four complete rings of jute.

Curve the loose end of the jute cording upward and create a small loop, then secure with hot glue. Bend the jute back down toward the center circles and create another loop in the opposite direction of the first one. Secure with hot glue. Continue making these loops all the way around the center circles, trying to be consistent with the loop size as you go. When you've reached your way back around to the first loop, wind the loose end of the jute upward as pictured in the second image here and glue it down.

Wind the loose end of the jute cording along the top edges of your loops, creating circles around the loops. Wind three complete circles, securing with hot glue as you go.

Repeat the loop making steps all around the larger circles you've just made. Once you've made it all the way around, secure the loose end upward again as you did earlier.

Wind the jute cording in circles against the loops as you did previously. You will run out of burlap circle to glue to at this point, so you will need to add hot glue to the sides of the cording as you work your way around. Make five complete circles to create the outer rings of the placemats.

Once all of the outer rings are complete, use scissors to cut the jute cording. Add some hot glue to the loose end, let cool for a few seconds, then squeeze together to prevent the cording from unraveling. Secure the loose end to the bottom of the placemat.
