This simple Christmas craft idea lets kids get creative with a variety of materials to create a set of colorful and sparkly ornaments for the Christmas tree. Just paint basic papier-pâché ornaments in a variety of Christmas shapes with glittery tempera paint, wrap with colorful yarn, and finish with mini pom-poms. This would be a great activity to do with a school group or a set of friends at a holiday party!
You can use a variety of papier-mâché and wood ornaments for this project. We used papier-mâché star ornaments, mitten ornaments, and this set of papier-pâché ornaments. Start by painting them with washable glitter tempera paint and a foam brush. Let dry completely. The glitter paint will help the ornaments sparkle on the tree!
Wrap the ornaments with colorful yarn. Once you have wrapped it in different directions a few times, trim the yarn and secure on the back of the ornament with a dab of glue. You can then wrap a second color of yarn around the ornament if you want.
Finish your ornament by gluing on some tiny pom-poms if you like. Have fun making a variety of ornaments in different shapes and colors - no two ornaments will be alike!
